Located near the library is a café area where you can take a break, grab a coffee, and relax.
Dewey Decimal System in Brookes:
Finding a Book: When you search for a book using the library's online catalog, you'll get a Dewey Decimal number. This number tells you where the book is located on the shelves in the library.
On the Shelf: Books are organised in numerical order according to the Dewey number. So, books with similar topics are placed near each other.
If you're unsure about where a specific subject is located, ask the staff at the library help desk or use the library's online system to search for your book and its Dewey number.
The subject librarian:
The staff in the library are ready to assist you with and queries you might have
If you need direct assistance or support from Ms. Joanna Cooksey, you can typically contact her via the library's contact system, or find her details through the library’s staff directory. Alternatively, she may have office hours or be available for consultations, and you can book a one-on-one meeting if necessary.
Reflection:
Libraries use systems like Dewey Decimal, which can be hard to understand at first. I overcame this by asking librarians for help and practicing searching online.
Also, with so many books and materials, it’s tough to find what you need. I got better by using search filters and learning how to narrow down results.
The Headington campus library is a quiet and productive environment, with resources to support your studies. If you need help, just ask the friendly staff at the service desk or look for the signs guiding you around.
